Description
Dominique Darbois was a female professional photographer who travelled to China in the late 1950s. She captured daily life in cities while accompanying an archaeological expedition that led her to photograph the Maijishan Grottoes in Gansu province as well as the Gobi Desert.

Dominique Darbois’ archive consists of 60 boxes, which contain:
- albums
- albums of negatives
- negatives
- black and white slides
- artist’s prints
- typed documents by Darbois herself

Dominique Darbois donated her whole archive to the French scholar and historian of photography Françoise Denoyelle in 2014. Since then, Denoyelle has been compiling an exhaustive inventory and started to document Darbois’ life and career. The archive is not digitized.

Several publications in French and English languages are dedicated to Darbois’ photographs (see references below).
